Diana Ross to performance at Dubai Airshow Gala Dinner

Legendary singer Diana Ross produced a memorable performance at the Dubai Airshow Gala Dinner entertained over 4,000 guests. The event was jointly organised by Emirates Airline, Dubai Duty Free and the Dubai Airports Company.

Ross was in Dubai to perform exclusively at the event. The audience included heads of state, government representatives, Airshow exhibitors, business representatives and media.

The Dubai Airshow Gala Dinner, which was one of the highlights of the Airshow’s 10th anniversary celebrations, was staged outdoors at the majestic Dubai International Marine Club.

During the evening, Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Airports Company and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, presented the Dubai Airshow exhibitor awards.

Paul Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Airports, also provided guests a detailed update on the historic week at the 10th Dubai Airshow.

Following the speeches and award presentations, Ross, who looked stunning dressed in a shimmering white gown and boa took centre stage and opened the concert with the Motown classic ‘I’m coming out’. Guests flocked to the stage and were captivated by Ross’ impeccable voice, dynamic dancing and stage presence.

Ross also performed hits including ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, ‘Do You Know Where You’re Going To’, the theme song from her 1976 film ‘Mahogany’, and songs from her days in the Supremes. The legendary artist entertained guestsfor over an hour and ended the spectacular concert with a mesmerizing performance of ‘I will survive’.

Diana Ross - Whole Lotta Diva Love for Diana - Artice from the Bottom Line

Whole Lotta Diva Love for Diana - By PJ Maytag
Diana. There is no bigger Motown icon than the incomparable Diana Ross. Diana defined the term Diva. Her achievements after nearly five decades in the entertainment business are truly incredible. The singer, songwriter and actress named Diane Ernestine Earl Ross has accumulated some outstanding accolades during her career. She has seven American Music Awards, a Golden Globe for her screen debut as Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues, which also earned her an Academy Award nomination as Best Actress, though she lost to Liza Minnelli for her performance in Cabaret. Oscar isn’t the only elusive award for this superstar. Although she has had 18 American number-one hit singles (12 while as part of the Supremes), and she has sold over 100 million records worldwide, the 12-times nominated singer has yet to take home a Grammy. She may sing a lot about love, but the Grammy’s have never shown her too much love in return.

Despite this deficit, Diana has received an honor this year which may assuage all those years of being snubbed. This September she was named as one of the honorees for the Kennedy Center’s 30th annual Honors Gala in Washington, D.C. According to Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman, “Diana Ross’ singular, instantly recognizable voice has spread romance and joy throughout the world.” Diana has some heady company, among this year’s honorees are Beach Boy Brian Wilson, pianist Leon Fleischer, actor and writer Steve Martin and film director Martin Scorsese. Diana will be breaking bread with President and Laura Bush and getting the recognition she so richly deserves for her contributions to American music, both as a Supreme and as a solo artist.
Her five years as lead singer of the Supremes, recording such classics as “Stop In the Name of Love”, “Where Did Our Love Go?” “You can’t Hurry Love” and “You Keep me Hanging On,” her soprano voice defined a whole new sound—Motown. The Supremes are inarguably one of the most successful musical groups of the ’60s. And Diana’s success as a solo act showed her resiliency and staying power as a legendary performer who always gave her love wholeheartedly to the music and the people sitting in the audience. It’s a love you can feel when you are part of the audience while she’s singing one of her hit songs. It’s what makes attending one of her concerts a singular experience.

In fact that’s what her current music tour and album is all about, love. Her latest CD release earlier this year, I Love You, is full of classic love songs along with the new song, “I Love You.” If you don’t have this CD yet on your rack, get it, her cover of “You Are So Beautiful” alone makes this a must-have. According to Diana’s co-executive producer on I Love You, Marylata Jacob, “We wanted to create the quintessential album to be played at celebrations of love and life: weddings, family gatherings, intimate moments. I Love You is Diana’s personal offering to honor these celebrations of love, from the glance of your first true love, through the joy of children, and love everlasting.”

Hopefully you’ve already got your tickets for her Coachella Valley appearance on November 16th at 8 pm at Fantasy Springs Special Event Center, as of press time they’re selling like hotcakes. You don’t want to miss out on the chance to see the living legend that is Diana Ross, and show her some of your love—it promises to be a legendary night.

Diana Ross  - Qatar Airways - Fly the friendly Skies to NYC - 30/06/2007 -

No expense was spared Thursday night when Qatar Airways threw a bash to promote its new nonstop route from New York City. A lively 45-minute performance by Diana Ross complete with costume change and some of her Hit Songs .

The night ended with a performance by Diana Ross, whom Cowie himself suggested because she rarely does private events and she fit the age group and target audience attending. Cowie clearly knew what he was talking about: She killed.

Opening with "I'm Coming Out" and finishing with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" (with plenty of her classics in between), the diva had the crowd enthusiastically getting down in the aisles and spontaneously throwing those urgundy peonies and calla lilies onto the stage as she took her final bow.

A glam coincidence? Perhaps. Ross changed midset into a lime-green number with more sequins and chiffon. She was in fine voice, earthy and electric with the joy of performing. The best sight? An audience of sophisticated New Yorkers throwing the aforementioned blooms at Ross' feet as she took her final bows. She exited like a goddess, gliding across a petal-covered stage. HBO or Showtime ought to film Miss Ross in her current show. And after that, I think it's time for this legend to try her hand at movies again.
